You are welcome to read through our journey..
Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church in Canberra held our inaugural Holy Qurbana (Masss) on 6th Dec 2008. Services on that day was held at St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, Kaleen led by our Bishop His Grace Mor Irenious Paulose, assisted by Rev Fr George Vayaliparambil and Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Kuzhiyelil.
Our new parish was named as St Athanasius Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, after Saint Arch Bishop, late lamented St Athanasius of Angamaly diocese in India and St Athanasius of Alexandria, both great defenders of faith.
Regular monthly Qurbana was started from July 2009. Since then we have held Holy Qurbana in most months.
Currently, we celebrate Holy Mass (Malayalam/ Syriac Qurbana) on first and third Saturdays of every month at various churches across Canberra depending on the availability of Churches.
Our parish was incorporated as an association with the ACT Registrar General Office on 25th January 2013.
An active Sunday school, Martha Mariam Samajam (women’s forum) and Choir operate in our parish.
